AlterEnglish's trio of George, Byron and Kun Patcharin were out on the town catching some live music. We went in a bar, ordered our drinks and Byron and I sat down at a table. Kun Patcharin remained standing. The conversation went something like this:
George: Where are you going?
KP: I'm going to buy some bin
George: What?
KP: I want some bin
George: (confused) why do you want a bin?
KP: I want to eat a bin
George: (totally confused) you want to eat a bin!
KP: Yes, like we used to last time
George: Hah, (as the light of understanding dawns) you want a bowl of salted peanuts.
KP: yes, of course.
To a Thai this makes perfect sense.Peanuts are beans, they don't worry about plurals, articles are a bit of a mystery so " I want to eat a bin." Easy when you know. Until next time take care.
